About Andrew Twigg

Andrew Twigg is a designer, educator, and researcher.

Andrew maintains an independent design practice focused on design and organizational strategy, user experience, user interface, interaction design, and branding. Andrew is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Design, where he has focused on interaction for digital systems, design fundamentals, visual communication, prototyping, and cross-media design systems.

Prior to establishing Andrew Twigg Design Studio, LTD, he lived in Chicago where he worked at startups and in agencies on established and emerging consumer and business-to-business brand, design, and content strategy.

Andrew is former board Treasurer of AIGA, the professional association for design. He sits on the advisory board to AIGA Pittsburgh; has served as the Presidents Council Chair of AIGA, President of AIGA Pittsburgh, and is emeritus Board of Directors for DesignInquiry, a conference-alternative design research organization. He sits on the board of FULLTIME, a Pittsburgh collaborative celebrating local creative entrepreneurship. He has written for AIGA Voice and UnderConsideration, and has had articles published internationally in DesignTaxi and AIGA Speaks, China.

Andrew is also pursuing a PhD in Transition Design, with a focus on collaboration and care. Andrew is developing a framework that facilitates surfacing of individual values and goals, to align those shared values and goals, and to increase care between teammates to improve collaboration. This is connected to larger themes of care, how it manifests in a number of contexts large and small; how it can be measured and increased; and the role of design and care for long-term, large-scale social issues.
